Even the believers in chi admit that it can't be proven or detected by any known method, it can only be "experienced."
Apparently, the only way to "experience" chi is to first believe in it, and then spend hours and hours meditating and clearing your mind of conscious thought (what is sometimes refered to as contemplating your naval..). Then, after you have convinced yourself that you should be feeling something, suddenly you do! That's called the power of suggestion.
Chi practitioners claim honing their chi makes them stronger, faster, tougher, heal faster, etc., but there is no proof of this. If there were, all professional athletes would do chi training, but they don't! The true believers who feel their chi is making them stronger don't realize that it is actually the years they spend practicing martial arts that makes them stronger!
All demonstrations of chi are either fake (ie. cons) or simple physical skills anyone can learn to do.
The claims of self-proclaimed Chi masters have been disproven again and again (search chi master vs. mma on youtube for a famous example).
For over 10 years James Randi has offered a million dollar prize to anyone who could demonstrate a "supernatural" skill. Chi falls into that category. As far as I know, only one "chi master" accepted the challenge, and he failed the test. Don't any other chi masters want a million bucks? If their claims are true, then what are they waiting for???
A final note: acupuncture is also based on the theory of chi flow. Supposedly by sticking needles into special chi hot spots, you can heal the body, etc. But recent medical studies have confirmed that any benefit from acupuncture is exactly the same, whether you use the ancient Chinese Chi points or random points on the body! Explain that, true believers!!!
You are all deluding yourselves! Wake up!!!

Second we are 3 dimensional beings moving through a 4th dimension (time) and unknowingly effecting a debatable amount of other non-perceivable dimensions of existence. It could be that chi is a construct of one or more of these imperceptible dimensions. Frankly we just don't know.
If we don't know what we are talking about, and were it comes from, or it make up we can't knowingly effect it. It is plausible to effect another realm of dimension through mental process that has been proven (1) through observation. But tests on chi have always come back inconclusive, so it's good practice to turn to something you can affect and work on that. That way you won't look like these guys (2)
