Addiction can simply be defined as being habituated to or dependent on something that makes your mind and body accustomed to it. The drug addiction may include cocaine, nicotine, heroin, caffeine, etc. Drug abuse involves the constant and unwarranted intake of some chemical stuff to attain a certain effect. Slowly, this becomes a habit, and not having drugs can cause extreme pain and restlessness.

Drugs can have a variety of effects. There can be feelings of ceaseless energy, utter repose and tranquility. Though the patient may have a false feeling of tranquility, in reality, he is anywhere far from it. The fact is he leads a truly miserable life full of extreme restlessness, insecurity and dependence upon others. He is unable to support himself morally and economically.

Besides, he becomes an indigestible for the society. He lives with a moral guilt and cannot get that encouragement from his family or society, which is very essential for his life and subsistence. A person can be addicted to drugs due to several reasons. It can be due to intolerable physical or mental ache, which a person feels unable to bear any more, and in order to get rid of it, he or she takes shelter in the shadow of drugs.

Moreover, the extreme depression, hopelessness, and feelings of loneliness can tempt a person to take drugs. Peer pressure can also be one of many reasons. However, being an addict to drugs does not mean that you cannot get rid of it ever in your life. A variety of techniques and treatment methods are there to help a patient. The first and foremost step towards recovery from addiction should be instant abandonment of drug. This can be done via standard withdrawal or medically administered detoxification.

Another important step towards the cure of drug addiction is making body fit, healthy, and strong. This method is adopted in primary sessions. Nutritious diet and massage therapies can be effective for this treatment. The next step can be the treatment of mind i.e. to make the mind of patient fresh and vigorous.

Since the continuous use of drugs deforms his mind-set, judgment, moral values, and even viewpoint, it is of vital importance to cure the mind, and get the patient in proper state of mind. Besides, another significant aspect of drug addiction treatment is to help patient get rid of repentance, embarrassment, and guiltiness. These are directly linked to the life of a person who is coming out of the world of drug-addiction.

It can be the middle stage in the treatment, but is very necessary to concentrate. Otherwise, feelings of remorse and shame can distort the patient emotionally.

After the patient is almost cured, it is very important to bestow him with a healthy environment, good society and company, positive remarks and encouragement, and most of all, healthy diet.

By following the proper procedure of treatment, a drug addict can get his healthy life back, and lead his life like other normal human beings.
